UDSM GATES DESIGN COMPETITION



Topic: “The 50th Anniversary of the UDSM”

Prize: Tsh 1,000,000/= for the Winning Design

The University of Dar es salaam will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in October 2011 and preparations for the occasion are underway. The Directorate of Public Service will sponsor a contest for the best design of UDSM gates as part of the 50th Anniversary of the University of Dar es Salaam.

A proposal has been put forward to design and construct state of the art gates for the two main entrances to the university at Ardhi and Maji sides and one minor entrance at Changanyikeni end.

The competition is one of the means of getting the university community, alumni and the general public actively involved in seeing their oldest institution through the year of celebration. The design should highlight the UDSM emblem and 50th Anniversary.

Gates Specifications:

Entries submitted by the contestants should at least meet the following requirements:

Highlight the mission and vision of UDSM
Pursue initiative and inspiration, and fully embody the spirit of the university.
Embody the emblem of the university “Hekima ni Uhuru” in a proper way.
Stress application and vogue and advocate originality.
Consider comprehensively factors such as craft, function, and region.

Call for unlimited art style.
Gates are to allow passage of all kinds of vehicles.
Services associated with security to be included.
Entrant should consider that the pillars of the gates will last for 100 years or so and that UDSM has its origin in 1961, the year of our independence

Submission requirements:
A copy of A3 (420mm×297mm) colored drawing should be handed in for every entry. There is no need to bind up the entry, but don’t fold it. The submitted colorful effect pictures should reflect the three-dimensional perspective diagram and the three-view diagram of the entry, where necessary. Please mark or describe the pictures with the necessary size, craft and material.
Contestants should also submit a “Promise Letter of Intellectual Property Transfer” for their entries.
Contestants should also submit contact details on a separate sheet of paper.
