Circular
To: All members
From: Executive Director
Ref: CTI/8/3861/2008
Date: 16th January 2008
Subject: Minimum Wage for the Industrial Sector
You would recall that when the Government increased the minimum wage from TZS 48,000/- to TZS 150,000/- per month, CTI interceded on behalf of its members. As a result of CTI’s intervention, the minimum wage was reduced from TZS 150,000/- to TZS 80,000/- for industries employing 300 workers and over and those exporting at least 25 per cent of their production. Schedule Part B of GN 223/2007 relating to fringe benefits was scrapped for all industries.
Please tick the box(es) below that describes your company’s status following CTI’s intervention:
1. Benefitted from the scrapping of Schedule Part B relating to fringe benefits.
2. Benefitted, my company employs 300 or more workers.
3. Benefitted, my company exports at least 25 per cent of its production.
4. Did not benefit, my company does not meet the criteria for exemption.
Please reply by 5 p.m. on Friday, 18th January 2008 as we need the information for further follow up.
We will appreciate other comments that will assist our follow up.
Kind regards.
Christine Kilindu
