Residents of Nyangu village, Kinango District at the coast are having it rough. First, a long and dry spell has meant that the village’s only dam has dried up, forcing them to dig holes to harvest the little water that seeps out. Second, roaming pastoralists also want a share of this water. As a result, fights have become a common feature as the two groups scramble for the scarce commodity. In these pictures, Ms Rose Zambia (in a striped dress) struggles to ward off several Masaai morans and women who wanted to ‘hijack’ her hole and help themselves to her water.
