Canada backs Dar's Mining Review move

The government of Canada has assured Tanzania of a maximum support in the country’s efforts to benefit from the mining sector and it is looking forward to see Tanzania achieving this goal.

The assurance has been given by the visiting Canadian Prime Minister Mr. Stephen Harper during a press briefing he made when he addressed Journalists at the State House yesterday.

Mr Harper was responding to a question about how Canada see the initiative of Tanzania in the Mining sector and his views on the loyalty collected from Mining companied in the country. Mr. Harper was in the one day state visit in the country.

In his address, the Prime Minister added that Canada is keen to see cooperation with Tanzania growing with more initiatives in encourage more investors not only in the Mining sectors but also in other sectors like Telecommunication and energy.

“We are looking forward to extend our relationship in various sectors but as far as mining as concerning Canada is really willing to help Tanzania achieve its goals and targets in the sector,” said Mr. Harper.

Earlier President Jakaya Kikwete said that Tanzania is intending to review the Mining Law so that the country gets the required share in the sector and not posing a threat to investors. President Kikwete was answering to a question as asked by a Journalist from Canada who wanted to know the position of the Canadian companies in on going enquiries.
