Salha Is New Miss Tanzania

REDDS Miss Ilala Salha Israel bested other 30 ladies to win the 2011 Vodacom Miss Tanzania Pageant during the national finale staged at Mlimani City Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam Saturday night.

In the 18th anniversary of the prestigious beauty pageant, stunning Salha dazzled judges and beauty pageant lovers with her poise and looks and didn't miss a beat during the Q&A session.

The new Miss Tanzania received a brand new American car model of jeep, a 72m/- Jeep Patriot courtesy of CFAO motors and 8m/- in cash.

The jeep is worth more than seven times in comparison with the value of the Hyundai i10 car awarded to the 2010 winner, Genevieve.

Tracy Sospeter from Shinyanga finished first runner-up, while the second runner-up spot went to Alexia William from Dar City Centre.

Fourth and fifth slots were respectively won by Jeniffer Kakolaki, also from Dar City Centre, and Loveness Flavian from Lindi.

They were awarded 3m/- and 2.4m/- respectively. A total of 30 contestants from across the country were involved in the neck to neck battle to succeed Genevieve.

The show was accompanied by rousing performances from among others, Twanga Pepeta, Akili ze Brain, fast-rising "Bongo flava" star Bob Junior and Nasib Abdul Juma, known by his stage name as Diamond and Ugandan songbird Juliana Kanyomozi.

It was another landmark for Ilala, which has been performing well in the national beauty finals, in which the municipality's contestants have either been winning or finishing as runners-up on several occasions.

The municipality last won the Miss Tanzania crown in 2002 through Angela Damas.

In 2003, Miss Ilala, Nargis Mohamed, grabbed the second runner- up spot while the following year saw Miss Ilala, Verdiana Kamugisha, grabbed the first runner- up position.

Ilala impressed again in 2008 by taking the first runner-up position through Sylvia Mashuda, while Juliet Lugembe and Sylvia Shally came second and fourth respectively the following year and Consolata Lukosi finished as second runner-up last year.
