The Mining Commission has called for intensified public education on Local Content and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to ensure Tanzanians fully benefit from the country’s mineral wealth.
Speaking in Dodoma on November 20, 2025 while opening a training session for regional Local Content and CSR coordinators, the Commission’s Executive Secretary, Eng. Ramadhani Lwamo, said effective enforcement of Local Content Regulations and CSR obligations is key to achieving the Government’s goal of empowering citizens to actively participate in the mineral economy and related sectors.
“Public education is essential in enabling Tanzanians to seize employment and business opportunities in mining, especially following the release of the list of goods and services that must be procured exclusively from 100 percent Tanzanian owned companies,” Eng. Lwamo said.
He urged the coordinators to strengthen collaboration between the Commission’s headquarters and Resident Mines Offices across the regions to ensure proper oversight of Local Content and CSR implementation.
Eng. Lwamo noted that the mineral sector continues to expand rapidly, contributing 10 percent to the national GDP as outlined in Tanzania’s Development Vision 2025.
Acting Director of Mineral Audit and Trade, Annasia Kwayu, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring Tanzanians benefit from all aspects of the mineral value chain, including employment and procurement in mining operations.
She revealed that the sector currently provides 19,874 jobs 97.5 percent held by Tanzanians and only 2.5 percent by expatriates.
On procurement, Kwayu said mines spent a total of USD 2.03 billion on goods and services in 2024, with Tanzanian companies supplying USD 1.79 billion, equivalent to 88 percent of all purchases an indicator of strong progress in Local Content compliance.
